EMERGENCY ROOMS????---

Two 18-year old bicycle rides were taken to the emergency room. The first person collapsed for less than a minute. When he awakens, he experienced intense fatigue and weakness as well as nausea, vomiting, headache, and diffused anesthesia. The second patient has the same similarities. Both patient's medical history focused on the substances they had taken to improve performance, they had both confirmed they had consumed different beverages containing caffeine, taurine, and sugar within the last 6 days. Other then they energy drinks they had drink they were perfectly healthy. To me that sound like they had drunk to much caffeine, taurine and sugar. I think their bodies just could not handle it.

Who Wants Some Energy In The Morning??

Here are the active ingredients in Redbull that are responsible for the increased energy.

Glucose - Obviously glucose is Sugar. Cells use sugar and can rapidly convert it into energy. This gives a short term energy boost as glucose is turned into sugar.

Taurine - Taurine is an amino acid that is naturally made in the human body. Each can of Red Bull contains 1000mg of Taurine. Taurine help to move minerals like potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium throughout the cells. This helps to generate nerve impulses.

Glucuronolactone - Glucuronolactone is a precursor of taurine. It has be known to improve memory and concentration. It also can have stimulant and anti-depressant like effects.

Inositol - Inositol has mood boosting effects and improves how the brain uses serotonin. A chemical that is the same that is boosted by anti-depressant drugs like Prozac and Zoloft.

Niacin - Niacin is a B vitamin that helps in energy formation. It metabolizes energy from fat and carbohydrates. Niacin can help the body use energy by releasing it from food.

D-Pantothenol - D-Pantothenol is also known as vitamin B5, or Pantothenic acid. It is known to improve mood and boost energy. D-Pantothenol help turn fat into energy and increases metabolism.

Pyridoxine HCL - Also known as Vitamin B6, Pyridoxine HCL helps red blood cells to form and provides better oxygen utilization. It also help to break down sugar that you have stored in your body to use for energy.

Vitamin B12 - B12 helps in the formation of red blood cells, for better oxygen utilization. It also help with energy production by breaking down fat and protein.

Caffeine - Red Bull contains 80.0 milligrams of caffeine which is almost double the amount of all other soft drinks. The caffeine in Red Bull gives you energy by blocking a chemical in you brain called adenosine. Adenosine promotes sleepiness and without it you would not be able to fall asleep. When adenosine is blocked you body releases a boost of adrenaline which wakes you up.

Deaths?

There was a death of an Irish student, who had drank three cans of
Red Bull after a strenuous exercise, and three people in Sweden in 2001
They drank red bull combined with alcohol and/or exercise, and died then the product came under scrutiny. People are really dying from over drinking these red bulls. It is so easy to drink these tasty drinks with alcohol, and then over drink and end up in the hospital or much worst dead.

www.BP.com/energylab

My energy use was 21561 kWh/yr. I am not sure if that is really a lot, but after answering the questions on there, I was not sure what half of the things that are on your house to make it more energy efficient like things to keep the heat in your home for longer. It made me think that maybe my family should look into doing small things like that to save the use of some energy.

Jitteryyyyy-----

Energy drinks are mostly used to get an extra boost during the day, about the same thing as a soda, only energy drinks carry much more caffeine amount other things. Though drinking energy drinks are showing to be more and more unsafe. Energy drinks are generally safe, but like most things, you should drink them in moderation. Because caffeine is a stimulant, consuming a lot of it can lead to heart palpitations, anxiety and insomnia. It also can make you feel very jittery and very irritable. Over time, caffeine can become addictive.People can become addicted to drinking it for the feeling of the energy. It is also a diuretic, it causes the kidneys to remove extra fluid into the urine. That leaves less fluid in the body. so drinking an energy drink while you're exercising can be particularly dangerous. I enjoyed reading this article there was a lot of information to take from it.

Red Bull?

Red Bull is a very popular energy drink. Some people question the side effects that it may cause the people who drink them. The idea is that if something is that good, then there must be something in the ingredient that can bring the opposite reaction. People are worried about the amount of caffeine in a single bottle of this energy drink. Though people do not know that about the same amount of caffeine is in a single cup of coffee that people like to take in.
